The annual WPP Atticus Awards and Journal, now in their 27th year, recognise original thinking in marketing communications on the issues shaping its business, industry and society.
The awards are open exclusively to those working at WPP and its agencies. Competition entries are judged by a panel of WPP senior leaders, assessing whether each entry was original, transformational, compelling and practical.
The awards comprise 10 core categories that reflect the span of WPP, including Brand Communications, Brand Experience, Branding and Identity, Commerce, Corporate, Creativity with Purpose, Data, Media, Strategy Innovation, and Technology-powered Creativity.
There is also a New Talent essay award, open to colleagues who have worked in the industry for less than five years. The Adam Smith Award, is presented to the Atticus entry judged most outstanding overall.
Winning, highly-commended and shortlisted submissions are published in the Journal in edited form.
All category winners, with the exception of the Corporate award – which goes to an agency rather than an individual – receive a share of a $60,000 prize pot. More importantly, they receive peer recognition for their ideas and the kudos of sharing their knowledge and insight across WPP and beyond.
Entries are submitted in the summer, from work published over the previous year, with the winners announced at the end of each year. The most recent awards were announced in December 2021
