NEW YORK: Veteran advertising guru Allen Rosenshine, chairman of BBDO and one of the forces behind the creation of parent company Omnicom Group, is to retire at the end of this year.

Rosenshine (67) helped form Omnicom in 1986 using BBDO and the merger between Doyle Dane Bernbach and Needham Harper as the cornerstones of the company.

The world's number one advertising services conglomerate now has more than 5,000 clients worldwide.

Rosenshine began his career in 1962 at JB Rundle Advertising, a B2B shop in New York, and moved to BBDO in 1965 as a copywriter. He handed over ceo duties at the agency to Andrew Robertson two years ago.

He is also a founding member of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America and will continue to work with the organization in his current role as vice chairman and executive creative director.
