SYDNEY: As expected, Australian media magnate Kerry Stokes - who chairs and controls the nation's Seven Network – has claimed the chair at West Australian Newspapers Holdings following the resignations earlier this month of four directors.
Three of the latter – chairman Peter Mansell, ceo Ken Steinke plus non-execs Jenny Seabrook and Mel Ward – quit after declaring their reluctance to work with the aggressive incomer and his lieutenants.
Steinke, however, remains in situ until his replacement – Channel Seven Perth managing director Chris Wharton – is eased into the hotseat.
Said a WAN spokesman: "The three new directors, with Mr Kerry Stokes, Mr Peter Gammell and Mr Doug Flynn, constitute a board with wide-ranging skills and business experience across a variety of industries, both globally and in Western Australia."
