LONDON: Rival UK publishers are playing leapfrog to bring forward their launches of two competing London freesheets.

Associated Newspapers, owner of the paid-for Evening Standard, has raced ahead to debut its free London Lite title on August 30, after originally scheduling it for September 4 [WAMN: 23-Aug-06].

The date was advanced after rival News International announced it would accelerate the launch of its free offering, thelondonpaper, to September 4 from the planned September 18.
