Wal-Mart-owned Asda, the UK’s number three supermarket chain, is holding discussions with a number of media agencies about the future of its £23 million media account.
It is believed that the talks will lead to a full review later this year, although Asda denies this. It is not known if the discussions include incumbent media shop Carat.
Insiders say the move may signal a drive by Asda/Wal-Mart to expand in mainland Europe. If so, it will be seeking both media and creative agencies with a significant European presence. Asda’s creative work has been handled for the past eleven years by Publicis.
