Auto giants Mitsubishi Motors and DaimlerChrysler announced the expansion of their existing sales agreement to include commercial vehicles.

Since September, DaimlerChrysler has used Mitsubishi’s Japanese dealership network to sell its Smart passenger car. This arrangement is now extended to cover DaimlerChrysler’s TIN and VITO commercial models, the combined annual sales of which currently stand at a puny 200–300 in Japan.

The duo are also considering working together to manufacture a new version of Mitsubishi’s Delica pickup model.

Full details of the new arrangement will be hammered out later this month after Rolf Eckrodt, once of DaimlerChrysler, takes up the reins as chief operating officer at Mitsubishi.
