LEEDS, UK - Wal-Mart's UK unit Asda has decided to continue its sponsorship of soccer star Wayne Rooney despite his controversial behaviour in England's losing match against Portugal. Rooney was sent-off after he "unintentionally" stamped on fallen Portuguese rival Ricardo Carvalho.

Perhaps aware that in the current UK climate, loutish behaviour by soccer role models is more likely to attract public admiration than disapproval, Asda has decided to continue exploiting the Manchester United striker.

In what some regard as a sick joke, 'stomping Rooney' will attend the Asda-sponsored Kids Cup Final to present the winning team with its trophy.
