America’s largest cable operator Comcast has decided not to proceed with a bid for the US entertainment assets of Vivendi Universal – among which are the Sci-Fi TV and USA cable networks.
“Comcast does not intend to bid for the Vivendi Universal entertainment assets,” the company told Reuters Thursday. But just hours after making this statement, the cable giant floated to the Wall Street Journal the idea of an alliance involving both groups’ cable operations.
The cryptic statement was short on details of a possible alliance, simply saying that its own goal was “creating new channels and services.” An insider opined that such a deal might involve unifying the management of their respective channels – a primarily cost-saving measure that would not affect ownership.
