Top-selling national newspaper USA Today has increased its lead over rival titles as total US newspaper circulation stayed flat.
According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, Gannett-owned USA Today increased its circulation by 1.8% in the six months to March 31, taking the total to 2.25 million.
Second-placed Wall Street Journal, however, stayed flat at 1.82m, while the New York Times retained its third ranking despite a 5.3% fall.
Further down the table, the Washington Post dipped 1.9% to 796,367 and the New York Daily News climbed 0.7% to 737,030. The Murdoch-owned New York Post continued a series of gains with a 10% jump to 620,080, closing on the Chicago Tribune which fell 1.1% to 621,055.
According to the Newspaper Association of America, total circulation across all titles reporting to the ABC was effectively flat, falling just 0.1%.
