Europcar International, the Volkswagen-owned operator of over 2,700 car rental outlets in 118 countries, has disclosed the names of agencies participating in a review of its international advertising duties. Billings were not revealed.

The client decided in October not to continue with incumbent Bates Worldwide. Shops fighting for the business are Shaken Not Stirred in Hamburg, the same city’s Philipp Keuntje, Parisian independent Jean & Montmarin, DDB Verba in Milan and Amsterdam’s Strawberry Frog.

It is unclear what implications, if any, the review holds for Zum Goldenen Hirschen in Hamburg, awarded the group’s German duties in October.

The triumphant shop will become international lead agency, with a brief to create “a new creative platform” for Europcar’s relaunch of worldwide branding efforts in March. Its work will supplement campaigns run on a national level by local shops.

A decision is expected by the end of January.
