SEATTLE: Microsoft has announced the appointment of Jason Scott (pictured) – previously the commercial director of its Australian portal Ninemsn – to lead its global advertising operations.

Scott – who will assume the position of director of global agencies next month – is charged with establishing a unit in Seattle that will broker deals between Microsoft and the various multinational advertising agency networks.

He will also be responsible for managing advertising on other Microsoft properties that feature marketing communications, including Hotmail, the MSN group of websites and the Xbox Live online gaming system.

Ninemsn is a joint venture between Microsoft and PBL Media, housing content both for MSN and PBL-owned Australian broadcaster Nine Network.

Scott actually left the venture in July, saying he wanted to "have a crack at something else".
