The transition to a new Congress and a new presidency create great opportunities for those who move quickly. For the advertising community, the privacy debate provides a textbook example of this phenomenon.
Our challenge is to play a constructive role. We must convince policy makers that we can protect consumer privacy, while preserving the ability to use information to target advertising. Privacy, e-commerce, and targeting can peacefully coexist. The key is to find the right balance between economic efficiency, competition, target marketing and privacy.
