Over half of the world's population will have the potential to use 5G in 2025, according to the latest forecasts from Ericsson. This is an increase in coverage from just 2% this year and an expected 7% in 2020.
This is an upgrade from previous forecast – coverage was last expected to be 42% by 2024, rather than November 2019's forecast of 45%. However, actual usage is expected to remain low through to 2022.
