In his book Romancing the Brand David Martin wrote about the kind of advertising that stretched the client's dollars, that is, the kind of advertising that got talked about and thus gained far more exposure than a mere paid advertisement ever could. People talked about such an ad "on their own time," so to speak, willingly promoting the product simply because it captured their imagination. Such a campaign was "Virginia Is for Lovers," which Martin's own agency devised in 1969 for the Virginia Tourism Corporation.
