Advertising professionals continue to freelance in record numbers, and they are just part of the big picture. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported that independent workers – people who are not on a ‘corporate’ payroll – now comprise about 30 percent of the U.S. work-force. The American Staffing Association, the largest trade group for staffing businesses nationwide, reports that payroll for temporary and interim placements of professionals has grown from $.3 billion in 1991 to $2.8 billion in 1998....
