Introduction

The University of Dundee was created as an independent Higher Education institution in 1967, having previously been Queen's College, part of the University of St Andrews. Since that time, it has created a strong reputation in many of those Faculties which had always been sited at Dundee, particularly within Life Sciences. In other areas, such as Social Sciences, it has struggled to keep pace with the reputation of the four principal 'Ancient' Universities of Scotland, namely Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews and Aberdeen....
