“A Life for Dakota” is an NGO dedicated to promoting a preventive culture of diseases through the use of vaccinations, and to contribute to making vaccines accessible for the entire population. In 2014, reports from epidemiologists from the Peruvian Ministry of Health’s establishments informed of the increase of chickenpox cases; however, the authorities did not consider chickenpox as a health issue, and so the vaccine was not a part of the national immunization plan. And so, “A Life for Dakota” began a crusade to make the population aware of the importance of preventing the disease and to achieve getting the vaccine to be included in the national immunization record. And so this is how we achieved getting the government to include the vaccine on the National Immunization Program Schedule, becoming a historical achievement for the health of all Peruvian people.
