Leukaemia can affect everybody.
In Switzerland, more than 1000 kids and adults fall ill from life-threatening blood diseases every year. For every fourth leukaemia patient in need of blood stem cell donation, no donor can be found. A blood stem cell donation is often the last chance of cure for seriously ill patients. Finding a suitable stem cell donor is often difficult because the tissue characteristics between donor and patient must match. Leukaemia is the most common type of cancer in children: every third child with cancer suffers from leukaemia.
