The Pillsbury Company's press materials and website declare Poppin' Fresh, the food industry giant's trademark character to be "America's most famous spokescritter." Indeed, the icon, also known as the Pillsbury Doughboy, was readily identified by 87 percent of the U.S. population just three years after his introduction in 1965. Created by the Leo Burnett agency, the animated Poppin' Fresh stood eight and three quarters inches tall (including his signature hat) and had a round belly that invited poking, bright blue eyes, a distinctive giggle, and he was, of course, made of dough....
