Even as Uber is traveling a bumpy road, a strategic compass is helping the transportation service navigate its current set of speedbumps and move towards a pothole-free future.

"When I got to Uber [in early June 2017], I found just extraordinarily good people at every turn," insisted Frances Frei, the enterprise's first SVP/Leadership and Strategy, during a keynote session on the opening day of Advertising Week 2017.

Frei arrived at the on-demand taxi app from the Harvard Business School, where she served as Senior Associate Dean/Executive Education (and remains the UPS Foundation Professor of Service Management).

And, like the rest of the world that has any interest in moving about cities, she had read the stories about mismanagement, driver negligence, and a variety of other missteps at a company that had grown too quickly.
