The online grocery scene in Singapore is a “very fast-moving, very buzzing environment”, according to Richard Ruddy, Redmart’s VP of retail.
Two years ago the pioneering startup in Singapore’s online supermarket scene was acquired by the Southeast Asian e-commerce giant Lazada, which is in turn backed by Alibaba. Southeast Asia region is a “real hotbed for e-commerce and retail”, Ruddy said at the FUTR Asia Summit in Singapore recently, and there is a huge opportunity for growth, especially in Singapore where smartphone penetration is near universal.
