Introduction

"The country where Valentine's Day is the most dangerous day of the year" was published on February 12, 2015 by The Washington Post. The story highlights the cultural and linguistic misconceptions of how Valentine's Day is celebrated in Cambodia, a male-dominated society, and touches on how the holiday exacerbates already high levels of rape.

"Cambodia already has a fairly significant problem with rape. According to United Nations research, one in five Cambodian men admit to raping a woman at least once and nearly two-thirds said they had raped their partner."
