On Tuesday, 3rd November 1902 the President of the Bank of America, Albert Mann, was on his way to discuss a business deal with Thomas Edison. The appointment had been difficult to arrange in amongst the almost constant stream of guests to Edison's New Jersey house. As he approached the house, he saw the previous guest having real difficulty opening the gate to leave.
