The numbers that substantiate the NFL's hold on Americans are staggering. The ten most-viewed TV programmes in history are Super Bowls. More women watched Super Bowl XL than total viewers watched the 2006 Academy Awards. Of all the fantasy sports players in the United States, nearly 80% participate in fantasy football. EA Sports' Madden NFL 2006 was the best-selling video game in 2005. More than twice as many Americans name professional football as their favourite sport as name baseball, the sport with the second-most mentions.
