The grocery chain H-E-B has probably been one of Texas’ best kept open secrets, although with its response to the disastrous winter storm in February of this year – which brought widespread power outages and unaccustomed snow and ice to Texas, the company is finally getting some of the widespread recognition it deserves. Among other noteworthy moves, the company let customers in an Austin store leave without paying when the store’s power went out, gave out flowers to make customers feel better, and got many of its stores up and running again, despite power outages.
