UK newsbrand ad income down 28.4% as tech giants promise to share wealth
Advertising income among UK newsbrands is estimated to have fallen by over a quarter in 2020 as publishers seek to diversify their revenue streams, according to data from the Advertising Association and WARC.
Why it matters
2020 has marked the steepest decline in newspaper advertising spend (both print and digital) ever recorded during the AA/WARC's 60-year history of UK market monitoring. Publishers have not been helped by a reliance on ad revenue from the industries worst hit by the coronavirus outbreak, like leisure & entertainment and transport & tourism.
