UK adspend fell 7.2% in 2020 but online platforms fared well
UK advertising spend fell 7.2% – £1.8bn – in 2020 though online display and search investment saw continued strong growth, according to the latest data from the Advertising Association and WARC.
Why it matters
The disruption from COVID-19 was unprecedented and most media saw a double digit decline last year. While a rebound is expected in 2021, many are not expected to recoup 2020’s losses until at least 2022 – this includes TV, direct mail and publishing sectors such as national and regional newsbrands, as well as magazine brands.
