Disney+ adds 12.4m subscribers, mostly in Asia
Disney+ has reached 116.0m paid subscribers in Q2 2021, an increase of 12.4m from the previous quarter and double the level from the previous year, according to the latest company report.
Why it matters
Disney+ is adding subscribers and narrowing the gap with Netflix, but most of this growth is from the lower priced Disney+ Hotstar service available in Asia.
Hulu also added 1.2m paid subscribers and has seen "very strong" advertising revenue. Disney added that its advertising growth "is coming from higher sell-through rates, a lot of addressable advertising and a significant ramp-up in the dynamic ad insertion technology...
