2009: the view from the top

There is no doubt that 2009 will be a very tough year. There will be a slowdown and/or recession in the western markets of the US and western Europe (principally the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain).

There will also be a slowdown in the traditional media, particularly newspapers, magazines, radio and network television. However, there will be growth in the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China), with a major challenge particularly for Russia and some of the Next 11 (Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Turkey and Vietnam). There will also be growth in the new media markets – internet, mobile and video content.
