Discounts and flexible payment options to shape US holiday sales

Holiday shopping in the US will be shaped in part by discounts and growing use of buy now, pay later (BNPL) options, according to a study by Adobe, the software company.

Online discounts will hit “record” levels in the 2023 holiday season, reaching up to 35% depending on the category.

This prediction was made by software company Adobe based on analysis of digital habits across 18 product sectors. And it suggested that discounts for toys will peak at 35% versus the original listed price, compared with a high of 34% in 2022.

Discounts for electronics were forecast to peak at 30%, up five percentage points from last year; the projected high for price cuts stands at 24% for sporting goods, up 14 points year on year, and 22% for TVs, a...
