Resourcing the service
In the autumn of 1987, marketing director Ian Harkness asked Barkers to assess driver recruitment prospects for London Buses for the coming (financial) year, 1 April 198831 March 1989. At that time, London Buses operated 4,700 buses on 350 routes, each bus covering an average of 30,000 miles per year.
