In the spring of 1987 the Media-Advertising Partnership for a Drug-Free America initiated a massive antidrug campaign that was touted as the nation's largest public-service campaign since the war bond effort of World War II. The partnership, a nonprofit coalition of advertising agencies and media companies, was formed in 1986 with the goal of "unselling" drugs to the public.
