Vedanta Sesa Goa: #SesaForGreenerGood – sanquelim mines reclamation a green model exemplar

Vedanta Sesa Goa, an Indian mining business, launched #SesaForGreenerGood on International Day of Biological Diversity in India to establish the brand as an exemplar of sustainable mining and a champion in environment conservation and sustainability, create a sense of urgency for positive climate action, and trigger a larger discussion on climate change.

Situation Analysis

Mining is predominantly associated with adverse environmental impact with fewer examples of sustainable mining in India. In contrast, Vedanta Sesa Goa's pioneering Sanquelim mine reclamation project is a benchmark. This project built a butterfly garden, a pisciculture pond, a medicinal garden and a bamboo pavilion on land where once machines extracted iron-ore. The company also produced national level football players by building Sesa Football Academy and gave local community training and employment through Sesa Technical School on this land.
