But there were several challenges, including negative narratives on safety protocols in theatres; Bollywood was struggling to get back viewers because of flop films and boycott trends; the audience was getting accustomed to consuming content on OTT etc. The pandemic had greatly weakened PVR's balance sheet and business. Therefore, PVR and INOX, the two cinematic titans, decided to merge to change the face of Indian entertainment industry.
