McDonald’s: ‘McDonald’s For Youth’ – unlocking equal opportunities for underprivileged communities

McDonald’s, a restaurant chain, launched McDonald’s for Youth to position itself as an equal opportunity employer, generate awareness of its decision to hire 50% of its workforce from NGOs, and bring about a social transformation for young job seekers from underprivileged and marginalised sections in India.

Being able to offer fast-track growth to underprivileged communities has been a key priority for independent India, giving birth to various Government schemes including the reservation policy. However, even after 75 years, progress is far from ideal. It is also a well-established fact that people with superior soft skills rise to leadership positions faster than those relying on technical skills. McDonald's with its acclaimed international standards of training, grooms its crew for top-class customer service environment, and therefore can play a big role in shifting the socio-soft skills balance for the underprivileged by its decision to hire 50%...
