In October 2022, new legislation permitted the sale of hearing aids over-the-counter (OTC) at retail stores for the first time, establishing an entirely new category of medical devices. Before the FDA's regulations were enacted, Lexie Hearing was a relatively unknown name in the US and only sold direct-to-consumer online. SGA executed a smart, well-timed launch strategy and within days of OTC devices hitting shelves, Lexie was being lauded by media as the most trusted brand in non-prescription hearing aids, experiencing record high web traffic and selling out of inventory.
