Saudi Arabia is a country of some 22 million people of whom some 16 million are Saudi nationals and the remainder a mix of expatriates from Asia, neighbouring Arab countries and the West. [1] It has many unique characteristics. In terms of population, some 50% of nationals are aged 16 years or less. This very broadly based population pyramid is not in itself unique as the same pattern can be found in other developing markets. However, what makes Saudi Arabia unusual is that this population profile is combined with quite high levels of disposable income which is why it is of such interest and value to companies such as Unilever, J&J and P&G.
