INTRODUCTION

This case study is an account of how Philips Healthcare engaged BrainJuicer to set up a project within an online community environment in which patients suffering from serious pulmonary illness were asked to share their experiences of living with their illnesses, of dealing with medical professionals and of undergoing a variety of treatments and procedures. The objective of the project was to derive insights that Philips Healthcare could use as the basis for product innovation and this goal was achieved.

The project was conducted in May/June 2009 and involved 23 participants, including patients with pulmonary illness and relatives of people with pulmonary illness.
