Background

Family Health International (FHI), a nongovernmental organization, is spearheading an HIVAIDS program in Indonesia funded by USAID. The main aim of this program is to increase risk reduction behaviour among individuals at high risk of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI).

The HIV/AIDS crisis in Indonesia is beginning to gain momentum as infection rates of the virus increase, especially among injecting drug users. The UN AIDS agency recently released a report that said 'The situation in Indonesia underlines the fact that where risky behaviour exists, the epidemic may eventually spread, even if it takes some years for the spread to become apparent.'
