UNHCR: The climate emergency is a humanitarian emergency

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) launched a live marathon on YouTube to raise funds in support of climate refugees and raise awareness among Gen Z and millennials about the connection between climate change and humanitarian crises.

At the root of humanitarian crises and forced migrations, there is increasingly the climate crisis with its extreme events: floods, droughts, famines.

As of today, there are over 114 million refugees and displaced people worldwide: more than double compared to just 10 years ago.

Issue

UNHCR the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, is increasingly called upon to intervene in contexts where the consequences of extreme climatic events impact the already precarious lives of millions of people fleeing conflicts and violence.
