Iniciatíva Inakosť: Our lives are at stake – creating safer Slovakia for LGBTI people

Iniciativa Inakos, an association that aims to improve the living standards of LGBTQ+ people, created the 'Our Lives Are at Stake' initiative to strengthen the sense of security for LGBTQ+ people by advocating for legislative change and stirring public discourse towards greater acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.

First terrorist attack in Slovakia takes two innocent lives

On October 12, 2022, two young people died in a terrorist attack on the LGBTI+ community.

The tragedy underscored the poor legal situation and social acceptance of queer people in Slovakia, which has long been one of the worst in the EU.

The murder left LGBTI+ people feeling increasingly vulnerable and unsafe. A survey from a leading LGBTI+ organisation showed that 80% felt threatened in public spaces.*
