CHICAGO: Mars has handed responsibility for its various confectionery brands – with the exception of its chocolate offerings – to the William Wrigley Jr Company, having recently completed its $23 billion (€16.7bn; £13.1bn) takeover of the chewing gum giant.

Wrigley will now become a subsidiary of Mars – in the process creating the world's biggest confectionery company – and taking control of brands including Starburst, Skittles, Tunes and Lockets

Paul S Michaels, Mars president/ceo, remarks: "The combination of our two strong international businesses, with best-in-class global brands ... creates one of the world's leading confectionery companies."
