KUALA LUMPUR: The Asia Pacific region and Europe - if not the global environment - are set to benefit from the latest newcomer to the low-cost airline industry, Air Asia X.

Born of an alliance between existing local carriers Air Asia and Fly Asian Express, AAX will take-off in July, plying between destinations in India, China and Europe.

According to Tony Fernandes, the new airline's majority shareholder and boss of Air Asia, AAX return flights to London will be priced from £41 ($79; €61) to £231 - its highest fare undercutting existing Asia-Europe routes by around 50%.
