Britain's Audit Bureau of Circulations has unveiled the latest regional newspaper sales data for the half-year to June 30. There’s good news – and bad.

While weekly newspapers in general prospered with more than half posting circulation growth, a mere 11% of morning and evening daily titles achieved increases.

But in a major coup that Britain's national titles would envy, the regional press managed to increase its percentage of actively-purchased sales to 99%. This follows an ongoing drive within the sector to axe controversial bulk sales, resulting in abandonment of the practice by 75% of titles.

Comments ABC director of newspaper and consumer magazines, Martyn Gates: “The regional newspaper sector’s strategy continues to reach a new milestone every ABC period. This strong ABC performance allows publishers to demonstrate to advertisers and agency buyers the important of the regional newspaper industry, and their commitment to deliver transparent and independent verification.”
