NEW YORK: From September through December this year, US presidential hopefuls from both main parties will be invited to engage in online debate via Viacom music channel MTV and NewsCorp's youth-exploitation website MySpace.
During the events, to be webcast live on MTV.com and MySpaceTV.com, front-running Democratic and Republican candidates will participate, each holding one-to-one dialogues with voters.
The latter will be able to pose their questions via email, text or IMS services in real-time during the events. In all there will eleven such happenings, with candidates typically located on college campuses.
Although the media channels claim the 'conversations' will be unfiltered, this is not strictly the case. The actual questions will be selected by a moderator aided by a group of "political experts" and an MTV News journalist.
Among the Democratic politicos taking part are Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama; while from the Republican camp quondam New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Senators John McCain and Sam Brownback will press the cyber-flesh
