Lenovo targets Africa

JOHANNESBURG: Lenovo, the Chinese electronics company, is aiming to be the leading PC supplier to Africa, its regional general manager has said.

Graham Braum recently visited Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana to meet representatives from governments, private organisations and business partners, with the intention of reinforcing the company's commitment to the continent and outlining its strategy there.

"The information and communications technology sector is continuously developing in Africa and technology plays a key role in the development and economic growth of countries," Braum told the Mail & Guardian.

"That is why, it is important for Lenovo to bring innovative smart connected devices to Africa to empower businesses and consumers," he added.

During the roadshow, Braum also launched the Lenovo Partner Network program, which is designed to provide existing and new partners with in-depth knowledge and tools to enhance their relationship with Lenovo, including access to a free online resource and a loyalty reward scheme.

More generally, Braum said developing operations in Africa was in line with the company's general global "Protect and Attack" strategy, which involves "attack[ing] areas of greatest potential and protect[ing] areas where we have a strong lead."
