DUBLIN: The Irish advertising market continues to boom as latest data shows 11.6% growth in the first half of 2006 compared with the same period last year.

The Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland says total adspend for the six months reached €812.2 million ($1.04bn; £551.5m). The print sector claimed the largest share of €531.9m, but the biggest growth was in outdoor and television advertising with rises of 13.2% and 12.6% respectively.

Online adspend has been included for the first time in IAPI's figures and reached nearly €5m.

The biggest spender so far this year has been household products giant Unilever at €11.9m, followed by alcoholic drinks titan Diageo which has spent €7.9m.
