Google is top brand in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian consumers have ranked Google as their favourite brand, according to the latest regional survey of preferences from Superbrands, the international brand marketing programme.

Its online survey of 1,500 Malaysian consumers aged 18-55 years old was conducted by research agency BDRC Asia and identified over 650 favourite brands across 109 categories.

While Google took the top spot overall, it was followed closely by 100 Plus, the Malaysian sports drink, which joined a total of five Malaysian brands that made the top ten.

Other top-ranked Malaysian brands included Air Asia, the low cost airline that was ranked fourth, health product retailer Ogawa that was voted fifth, Gardenia bakeries at sixth and interbank network service provider MEPS, which came tenth.

Rounding out the top ten were Double A, a paper brand, in third place, US battery brand Energizer in seventh place, Japanese electronics giant Panasonic at eighth and Maggi, Nestlé's instant noodle and soup brand, rated ninth.

Mark Pointer, CEO of Superbrands Malaysia, paid tribute to the standing these brands have gained in the local market, commenting that the fact they have been voted by consumers as their favourite brands is testament to the recognition and standing they have in the local market.

"These are truly exceptional brands that are at the forefront of consumer consciousness," he said.

Piers Lee, MD of BDRC, added: "How a brand resonates with its audience and the extent to which the brand remains relevant in order to maintain brand loyalty is crucial.

"Great brands such as the brands in the Superbrands top ten list consistently deliver on this and that's why consumers identify with them and think of them as their favourite brands," he added.
