The brief but high-profile glimpse of singer Janet Jackson's breast during a CBS broadcast earlier this year, could cost the network $550,000 (€450,000; £303,000).
Regulatory body the Federal Communications Commission, is reputedly planning to fine the network for the incident, screened during February's Super Bowl halftime show and seen by an estimated 90 million viewers.
CBS is in the dock because the incident contravened the FCC's peaktime viewing indecency watershed. If approved the fine would be the highest for television, although neither CBS or the FCC would comment.
