LONDON: The British Labour Party - now led by prime minister Gordon Brown following the abdication of Tony Blair - has reportedly asked a number of agencies to pitch for its ad account as it seeks to oil its spin machine before the next general election.

Agencies angling for the business are said to include Clemmow Hornby Inge, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, Profero and Beattie McGuinness Bungay.
TBWA/London created the party's last election campaign under the strapline 'Britain is Working', and cabinet minister Douglas Alexander is thought to be compiling a shortlist for the next one - the date of which is the subject of much speculation.

Jon Mendelsohn has been appointed as the party's director of general election resources, responsible for increasing finance, membership and organisation prior to the next political face-off.
